1619 – Richard Burbage, a fellow in Shakespeare’s acting company The Lord Chamberlain’s Men, later The King’s Men, dies.
1868 – Russian social realist Maxim Gorki (a nom de plume meaning “the bitter one”) (d. 1936)
1885 – Gilbert & Sullivan’s The Mikado was performed for the first time at the Savoy Theater.
1889 – Swedish playwright August Strindberg’s Miss Julie (Froken Julie) premiered in Copenhagen

1975 – Bernard Slade’s Same Time, Next Year premiered in NYC.
1990 – Austrian born psychoanalyst committed suicide. i just think that’s ironic as all hell.
