The Tijuana Book Fair, sponsored by the municipal government, runs from May 19 through May 28. La Avenida Revolucion, La Revo, the main tourist street in town, with all its discos, night clubs, restaurants, strip joints, pharmacies, souvenir shops, painted burros, mariachis, and the old Jai Lai Fronton (now a concert venue) will be blocked from Calles 7 to 8 for a block long, outdoor book fair. Entry is free and there will be 10 days of free outdoor concerts of all kinds of music to draw folks to the fair. You can listen to ranchera, banda, boleros and corridos ponzoñosos as you shop for books. There is a clean, secure hotel just up the street, also on the beach, with double occupancy rooms at US$20.00 a room (actually 200 pesos, just under US$20).
Let me know if you are coming and I’ll send directions & suggestions.
