There used to be a wooden sign here Merrill S Gaunt Square. It was a victim of an ice storm after years of neglect. I reported the sign had fallen about 18 months’s still not there. Granted the sign and the iron signpost were at least 50 plus years old, it’s very sad that it hasn’t been replaced.

Merrill S. Gaunt was a WWI ambulance driver from Methuen who died from meningitis in 1916, the square was dedicated to him in 1922. The post and hanger are the original ones, but it looks like some of the plumes are missing from the hanger. I will get an estimate on the replacement costs. I’d donate 5 bucks towards a new one – I wonder who else would.
