Things you find while looking for other things. I took a few hours and prowled around Norm Starr’s barn looking for something that I never did find.. But I did find this little ditty. A 4″x6″ leather volume a.e.g circa 1880s, containing a printed marriage service and plenty of pages for the witnesses to scribble their names. The INTERESTING part and you know there is one, is that the couple, scratched out some parts, ‘wilt thou obey him and serve him’ has a line through it as does the bit about ‘with all my worldly goods I thee endow’. I suppose that kinda balances things out. He keeps hold of the purse strings and she tells him to make his own damn dinner. Rather progressive I think.
