obit of note – Madeleine B. Stern

Ninety-five year old Madeleine B. Stern, the first women President of the Antiquarian Booksellers Association of America and surviving partner in the antiquarian book firm Rostenberg & Stern, died peacefully at home on Saturday after a brief illness. Along with the late Leona Rostenberg she co-authored a number of memoirs of their life in rare books and inspired the musical ‘Bookends’ (book & lyrics are by Katharine Houghton) based on the story of two celebrated rare book dealers.

Here’s an Interview with Rostenberg and Stern that appeared on a New York PBS station in the late 90s.
