sin and a shame

miscarriage of justice • The Literature Professor / Book Thief who pillaged the Bonn University Library of eight books got 18 months SUSPENDED sentence. The books dated from the 16th to the 18th century and collectively worth 250,000 euros (325,000 dollars) by replacing them with worthless copies, then erasing the library stamps, selling the books at auction and producing fake receipts as proof of provenance.

and most recently • Between the Covers is asking the assistance of the antiquarian book community in keeping an eye out for the following books, stolen from this past weekend’s New Jersey Antiquarian Book Fair on the morning of January 13, 2007:

CHANDLER, Raymond. Farewell, My Lovely
HEMINGWAY, Ernest. Men Without Women (2 copies)
HEMINGWAY, Ernest. A Farewell to Arms (2 copies)
HEMINGWAY, Ernest. Fiesta HEMINGWAY, Ernest. Winner Take Nothing

LE CARRE, John. A Murder of Quality
