bookart– there is an artist out there doing something terribly clever and quite beautiful with old books in the name of art. Thomas Allen‘s art involves photographing old paperbacks sometimes with their cover images trimmed in revealing ways. You can find his photographs on the Bernard Toale Gallery and the Foley Gallery pages. I’m gonna keep an eye out for this fella.


eventThe International Edible Book Festival is held on April 1 throughout the world. This event unites bibliophiles, book artists and food lovers to celebrate the ingestion of culture and its fulfilling nourishment. Participants create edible books that are exhibited, documented then consumed. The only rule is to make edible art that has something to do with books as shapes and/or content. The Edible Book was initiated by Judith A. Hoffberg over a Thanksgiving turkey with book artists in 1999, and became a reality through the artist BĂ©atrice Coron Books2Eat website, for the first event in 2000.
