worth reading • There’s a piece in today’s Boston Globe about students downloading illegal copies of overpriced textbooks. Aside from the huge ‘duh’ factor, it does tell you where and how to do such a thing, which I found worth making note of. I know every time I bring up bibliopiracy I throw a hand grenade into the room, “oh, how can you condone such a thing?!”, “don’t you believe in the author’s rights??” Sure I do, but I don’t believe in publisher’s rights to screw people over just because they have students by the short hairs. Do you actually think that textbook authors get THAT big a cut? Show me a textbook worth two hundred dollars straight out of the box, and the thing better come with batteries and keep me company on long lonely nights.
