wwwd? • what would walt do? The Disney corp is still endlessly tap dancing around the possibility of releasing Disney’s Song of the South on DVD. Song of the South, for those who haven’t seen it, finally brought the African American folklore collected by Joel Chandler Harris to the white folks in a shiny Technicolor palatable package. The grassy knoll of this film is that it doesn’t explicitly declare whether the persons of color were or were not living under the yoke of slavery or were merely living under the yoke of hand to mouth tenant farmerhood. Either way they had no damn business being so damn happy and should have been plotting to the downfall of the white man. And of course releasing it on DVD would be bad because . . . .wait what was I talking about? Nevermind I’m gonna go to my laughing place now.
